Trakai Peninsula Loop & Island Castle Preserve

Trakai is about a 30 minute train ride from Vilnius, and makes for a fantastic destination run. The peninsula is part of Trakai National Historical Park, and features scenic waterside paths and sidewalks Our 7.5 km peninsula perimeter loop around Lake Galvė to the Trakai Peninsula Castle and Trakai Island Castle is on quiet, scenic roads and sidewalks, including a memorable bridge and approach to the castle.

Start at the Trakai train station for easy access, and follows Vilniaus Mazoji g. north around the bay. After about 0.5 km, a gravel path splits off Bernardinu g. to the RIGHT. Follow the path north along the coast to the Peninsula Castle Reserve. Pass the wooden bridge and continue around the peninsula to the next bridge (across from the tourist information center). Turn RIGHT over the memorable, wooden Bridge to Island Castle, and then enjoy a loop around the Island Castle Reserve, winding between the water’s edge and the castle walls. Return back over the bridge, then turn RIGHT past Vityne to Karaimų g. Take the first path on the LEFT side of the road to loop back to Trakų g. and use the sidewalks to return to the start via Vytauto g.and A16.
