The Cotton Belt Trail offers a good off-road 5-miler on the west side of Waco. The mainly paved multi-use trail, built on the abandoned St. Louis Southwestern Railway corridor, winds its way through the Harris Hill neighborhood, just south of SR 84. The landscape is fairly open, and the trail is nicely landscaped with trees.
The west end of the trail is at Trail Blazer Park, which has parking and is a good start point. Head east on the trail for 2.4 miles to the end at the City of Waco landfill at Hannah Hill Rd. A particularly scenic spot is the bridge over the Old Bosque River at the ~1 mile mark.
