Stretching along the western limits of Palm Springs before the streets give way to mountain ranges, Palm Canyon Drive is one long road with some scenic parts that reaches from the city center all the way down to the Agua Caliente Indian Reservation. If you’re seeking a lengthy but customizable run in the city, this may be your best bet. Most of the road is paralleled by a sidewalk, and the southern section has an adequate shoulder — so while you should keep one eye on the road, you can also appreciate the sandy stretches of mountains that will flank you on the west.

From the city center to the reservation, it’s about 6.5 miles, initially lined with Palms and then becoming more rugged. You’ll pass by the Palm Springs Art Museum, the Historic Tennis Club, and other landmarks, with views of Tahquitz Canyon to the west. Of course, you can turn around at any point. Be sure to plan your run for cooler temps and plenty of water.

Add-On/Detour: For a quick detour, go a couple of blocks east to 22-acre Ruth Hardy Park. Or, enjoy the tony neighborhoods of Old Las Palmas and Vista Las Palmas, just west of Palm Canyon Dr.
