Kahului, tucked into the north side of the valley near the airport, is one of the most populous areas of Maui, and home to one of the longest stretches of beach on the island. There is a multi-use path that parallels Amala Pl. & Stable Rd. The beach is also runnable, with fairly compact sand. Notes: open & exposed! Use caution in the sun & heat. Kahana Beach Park opens at 7am.
The start of the official cycle path is at Kahana Beach Park. It runs east for 1.7 miles to Sugar Cove Beach on the Hana Highway. At the western end, you can also run further west for 1.8 miles on a path in Kahana Beach Park and then on a non-paved path in Kanaha Pond State Wildlife Sanctuary paralleling Amala Pl. One fun running option is to run the path one way and the beach back.
