Tromsø ‘Runseeing’ Tour

Creative Commons: Mark Ledingham

This is an enjoyable ‘runseeing’ tour of Tromsø, covering its scenic & historical highlights: waterfront, Old Town, several small parks, colorful wooden buildings, and the iconic Tromsø Bridge. The route can be a tad confusing in parts, though it’s hard to get lost — use our map as a guideline.

Start in the marina/port area, and take a jaunt out the pier and then run for ~1 km south along the waterfront to the ferry terminal. It’s a mix of boardwalks and on-street sections. Double back along Kaigata, LEFT on Kirkegata away from the water, passing the Northern Norwegian Art Museum & Tromsø Cathedral. Continue west into the small, pretty Kongeparken and do a loop around its paths. Exit onto Vestregata, heading north through the central commercial part of Tromsø, passing the Tromsø Library & Musikkpavilijongen. LEFT on Storgata, and then LEFT on Nordre Tollbodgate, passing pretty & colorful wooden houses, to the Tromsö Viewpoint. Make your way back to the water, using Verfsgata, and then enjoy a run across the Tromsø Bridge. It’s 1 km and has a narrow but decent pedestrian path. There are great views of the water, surrounding mountains, and the Arctic Cathedral (Ishavskatedralen) in the Tromsdalen neighborhood on the mainland. Double back across the bridge to complete your run.
