Châteauroux Forest

The Châteauroux Forest (Forêt Domaniale de Châteauroux) is a large area of wooded paths and trails, terrific for running. The 5,000 hectare forest, located 10 km south of Châteauroux, is one of the largest oak forests in France.

For running, there are many km of mainly wooded trails — a combination of wider allée type paths (allée forestière on the map), cycle paths, and some more rugged trails. This brochure (in French) has excellent information and a trail map suggesting several circuits (sentier). The trails are well-waymarked. On the trail map, trails designated as revêtue are paved and empierrée are crushed stone.
