Kalemegdan Park & Fortress

Kalemegdan Park
Creative Commons

Kalemegdan is a large, hilly park in the historic center of Belgrade featuring a 2,000 year-old fortress, extensive walking paths, and great river views. One can easily put together a self-contained run of several km in the park, or combine this with nearby river paths or our ‘runseeing’ tour.

The park is divided into three sections: park, Upper Town (closer to the Danube), and Down Town (closer to the commercial center). This park information and interactive map are very helpful! You can create your own route here and add some km. The Celtic Fortress dates to 200 AD and has tours. Down Town is flatter and has some wide allée type paths, especially around the Monument of Gratitude to France.

Add-Ons: The Sava Promenade skirts the Upper Town edge of the park. Can also combine with our ‘runseeing‘ tour or add with our Danube River route (use Zemunski Bridge to cross).

Essentials
  • 4-5 km within the park, with good add-on options
  • The park is hilly!
  • In park. From Belgrade dowtown, can access via Uzin Mirkova
  • Kalemegdan tram stop or pedestrian access via Uzin Mirkova from downtown or from Sava Promenade
