The waterfront promenade along Hạ Long Bay in Hạ Long is an incredibly scenic route. The wide waterfront path runs for nearly 8 km between Hon Gai Beach in Hồng Hà, west to the Best Western Hotel in Hong Gai. There are fantastic views of the towering limestone islets that are a signature attraction of Hạ Long Bay. Our thanks to Lena Andersson of Go! Runnning Tours for suggesting this route!  PRO TIP: Be sure to check out the Ha Long Market, which is along this route. Delicious fresh pineapple post-run!

Choose any part of this path that runs along Trần Quốc Nghiễn road, or do the 15+ km out & back! Our preferred section is the ~5.5 km between Công viên Park and Hon Gai Beach. There are great views and a festive scene, with lots of people exercising. There are restrooms in Công viên Park.

The western section stretches for 2 km from the park to the Best Western Hotel. It includes 0.75 km over the busy Cầu đi bộ bridge, though there is a decent sidewalk. Then the promenade picks up again for the final 1.25 km.

Add-Ons: Công viên Park is a wide open, newish and nicely landscaped park. There are ~2 km of paths in the park — a loop if the perimeter is ~1.5 km. Also along this route is Bai Tho Mountain (Poem Mountain), which features great views of Halong Bay from its 200m summit. The ‘hike/run’ route is principally a series of winding stairs. NOTE: Has been closed to the public in recent years.
