Putting together a run in ‘downtown’ Steamboat Springs is a good option as a standalone route or in combination with the Yampa River Core Trail. Steamboat Springs has a fairly small downtown, but there are wide, flat streets and some historic buildings. It’s also a good option for running in winter, as the streets are maintained, or at night, with the festive holiday lights. All of the core downtown streets feature good sidewalks.

We don’t have a set running route here. Rather, put together your own run, mainly using the east-west streets that run for ~1 mile between 3rd St. & 12th St. The main ones are Pine, Oak, Lincoln, and Yampa. Lincoln Ave. is also Highway 40 and is the widest — but it’s also the most commercial so there are lots of stores to look at. The side streets from 3rd St. to 12th St. are 1/4 to 1/2 mile in length. Outside of the main downtown area, things get hilly very quickly. And most of the roads don’t gave a sidewalk. As part of this, there’s a running track at Steamboat Springs High School, located off 2nd St. or Maple St. or @ the 0.3 mile mark of the Spring Creek Trail.
