There are some nice paths for running along the Cávado River (Rio) in Vila de Prado, located just 10 km north of Braga. The area is popular for its riverside beaches. One of the easier off-road runs in the area, it’s also a good shade option on a hot day . There are paths on the north and south banks of the river. Pro Tips: Run over the Ponte de Prado, a historic cobblestoned bridge; and enjoy a swim in the river post-run!
One can combine these, but this involves a ~1 km road connection from the Ponte de Prado — a historic cobblestoned bridge.
South Bank. The south bank path is up to 5 km. The most developed part is the 2 km cycle path that runs west from the Ponte de Prado. It’s tree-lined and nicely landscaped. West of the bridge, the Caminho Rio Cávado path is a bit more rugged and runs for 3 km to the Ponte do Bico.
North Bank. The footpath on the north bank is called the Ecovia do Cávado. The dirt path is a combination of open & wooded, with some views of the river. It starts at the Porto Carrero beach (Faial), ~1 km north of the Ponte de Prado, and runs for 3.2 km north to Av. Carreira da Torre. Note: Can combine w/the south bank path, using 1 km road connection and the Ponte de Prado.
