There’s some scenic waterfront running in Sha Tin New Town, in Hong Kong’s eastern territories. A dedicated promenade path follows the Shing Mun River, to where it spills into Sha Tin Hoi Harbor. There are paths on both sides of the river, featuring views of the water, surrounding mountains, and skyline. Overall, one can do loop of nearly 12 km, with options to add even more. Bonus: Lit at Night!

The path starts just west of the Lion Bridge, on the south side. There’s a pedestrian bridge just east of there. Run east toward the harbor. At 2.7 km, there’s an option to do a 2.3 km loop around an inlet. At ~5k, cross the pedestrian-only Sha Tin Twin Bridge to access the north side path. Head back west along the water.

Along the way, there are additional scenic trails in: Penfold Park, a former equestrian venue that now features grassy trails; and Sha Tin Park, a landscaped area with paths & flower gardens.

Add-Ons: East of the Sha Tin Twin Bridge, you can continue onto the Ma On Shan Promenade. On the west side north of Tate’s Cairn Hwy., there’s the Pak Shek Kok Promenade along the west side of Tai Po Harbour that runs for 8 km from Science Park to Tai Po Waterfront Park.
