This running route has a nice variety: a tour of Dubuque’s historic downtown, a run up to the Bluffs area featuring great views of the city and river, and a jaunt through the campuses of Loras College & Clarke University, each of which has a good running track! Use our map as a guideline — you can improvise on the many other streets! Note: Hilly!
Start on Main St. at Jackson Park. It’s a nearly 1 mile straight shot down Main St. Key sites include the Clock Tower, Five Flags event center, and St. Raphael’s Cathedral. As you run through downtown, keep an eye out for the 45 murals, commissioned by Voices Productions. RIGHT on 3rd St. to climb Kellys Bluff, climbing 200 feet over 0.3 miles. You’ll be rewarded with great views (note: the historic Fenelon Place Elevator is a steep, short funicular railway connecting 4th Street & Fenelon Place).
At the summit, there’s nice running on the streets in the Fenelon Place neighborhood. Run some of these streets, and through the campuses of Loras College & Clarke University (create your own route or use Alta Vista St. & Rosedale Ave. as connectors). There are running tracks at Rock Bowl Stadium @Loras College & Dalzell Field @Clarke University. Use Clarke Dr. to return to downtown, passing some nice homes.
Add-Ons: Downtown, add with more of the long north-south streets. Can also pop over to the Mill District and use 16th St. to access the Bee Branch trail and Waterfront/Schmit Island routes.
