The NW Arterial Trail (officially called the NW Arterial Bike/Hike Trail) won’t win any awards for scenery or quiet, but it’s a good opportunity to clock in some off-road miles and also combine with other trails in Dubuque. The paved multi-use path runs for nearly 5 miles along the NW Arterial Hwy, west of Dubuque. NW Arterial is a busy highway-like road, with two lanes of traffic in each direction.
The north end is at South John Deere Rd., where it connects to the Heritage Trail. Run south for up to 4.8 miles, alongside the road. The first 2 miles is a steady uphill (300 foot) climb. The southern terminus is at Chavenelle Rd.
Add-Ons: At the north end, connect to the Heritage Trail, which runs east for 2.8 miles toward downtown or west as far as Dyersville.
