The Waco Dam Trail offers a nice run along the east side of Waco Lake. The lake is located six miles northwest of downtown Waco, and the Dam was built in the 1960s to provide Waco with a reliable source of water. The paved, 3-mile multi-use path runs above the lake, and features nice water views. Notes: Open and exposed, use caution in heat; Lit at night.
The trailhead is located at the parking lot off Airport Rd. Follow the path for 0.3 miles down to the lake, and run south for ~1.5 miles or north for ~1.2 miles. Doing the full trail from the parking lot is 6 miles.
Add-On: Airport Park. At the north end of the trail, you can run for several miles on roads and paths through the park. The park is a popular camping area for its setting on Waco Lake. There aren’t dedicated paths, but it’s a low-trafficked road. It’s also a decent shade option.
