The extensive trails at Yangcheng Lake make for a great destination run. The freshwater lake is located about 30 minutes from Suzhou via metro or rail. It’s also reachable from Shanghai via high speed train (about 1 hour). While the lake is 17 km long and 8 km wide, the recreation option are centered around the Yangcheng Lake Peninsula at the south end of the lake. There’s also some nice running at the southeast end of the lake near the Fairmont Hotel. Below are some of running route options for Yangcheng Lake.
Peninsula Loop
There is an extensive system of trails around the Peninsula, with separate cycle and pedestrian paths in most spots. There’s wonderful scenery, with paths right along the lake, pedestrian bridges, pavilions, an ecological park, & Chongyuan Temple complex. We’ve mapped the full ~18 km loop of the peninsula, but you can choose your distances. Good start points are Lianchihu Ecological Park/Yangcheng Island Hotel, or the parking lot off Yongyang Rd. A few shorter loop options & variations:
- Southwest Loop: 5 km loop from near the Puli Hotel and around the Lvting Bridge.
- Lianchihu Ecological Park. 3-4 km of pedestrian paths around Lianchi Lake. A lovely green spot.
- Southeast Spur: A nice path runs along the interior lake at the southeast end near Huayi Brother Film World (see map) from the Taikang Home Wuyuan Hotel south for 3.2 km, making for a nice 6.4 km out & back or add-on option.
Xilu Park/Bacheng Ecology Wetland Park
This is a separate area for running, on the eastern side of Yangcheng Lake, near the Fairmont Hotel. It’s ~3.5 km north-south on the waterside paths, with longer options adding the interior paths. There are both water views and also nice green spaces, with lovely trees and landscaping.
