Wolfeboro is a resort town on the northeast shore of Lake Winnipesaukee. There are two running routes we would recommend in Wolfeboro.
Cotton Valley Rail Trail
Cotton Valley Rail Trail. Mark Lowenstein
We love the Cotton Valley Rail Trail, which runs for 12 miles between Wolfeboro and Rt. 16 in Wakefield. The Wolfeboro end begins at Depot St. It’s mainly wooded, with some lake views.
A good 4 mile out and back and a section with the best scenery is from Wolfeboro to Albee Beach, which has lovely water views on causeways along Lake Wentworth and Crescent Lake. The surface is mostly hard gravel, with some paved sections near the towns.
Sewall Loop, Wolfeboro
The ‘Sewall Loop’ in Wolfeboro is a nice 4-mile route on quiet roads, incorporating Sewall Rd., Forest St., and N.Main St. (Rt 109). There are nice views of the village, beaches, boats bobbing in Wolfeboro Harbor, and some grand homes bordering the lake. Some lake views.

Cotton Valley Rail Trail is fairly flat except for a hilly section between miles 4.5-6.5
A worth-it destination run in the Moltonborough area. Mountaintop estate with gorgeous grounds featuring gardens and fantastic views of the lake. Also access to 28 miles of hiking trails over 5,200 acres, with moderate to challenging trail running.
In the Gilford/Glendale area at the southern end of Lake Winnipesaukee, there's some decent running along lakeside roads, and excellent trail running options in the Gunstock Mountain area.
In Meredith -- one of the major resort towns of the Lakes Region -- we've put together a nice run on waterfront trails & roads. Also some good trail running in the Meredith Community Forest.
Laconia is considered the 'gateway' to the Lakes Region. Best running option is the 4.3 mile combined WOW Trail/Winnisquam Scenic Trail between Lakeport and Belmont, passing through Laconia.
Just south of Silver Lake, the Winnipesaukee River Trail makes for a pleasant, nearly 5 mile off-road run between Tilton and Franklin. Flat, mainly wooded, with glimpses of the river.
