The Demerara River Bridge and Joe Vieira Park are two recent improvements to the Georgetown running scene!

Demerara River Bridge connects Georgetown and Schoonord on the east and west banks of the Demerara River. The bridge was completed in 2025 (replacing an old floating bridge), and includes wide, protected lanes specifically for pedestrians and cyclists. The span is high, so there are great views of the river and the city. The bridge is officially 2.8 km long. Access on the Georgetown side is at Republic Park Phase 2 near Nandy Park. Access on the west side via West Bank Public Rd. Note: this might change when the new exit road is complete at Schoonard, part of the Joe Vieria Park renovation.

Joe Vieria Park, located in Schoonord on the west bank of the Demarara River, is undergoing a major renovation. Scheduled to open in 2026, the park is modeled after Guyana National Park in downtown Georgetown. When completed, the park will feature numerous sporting facilities and recreational spaces. Please check back for more information on specific paths & distances once the park is open.
