The signature run in Porto Alegre is the series of paths along the Guaíba Waterfront. It’s about 4 km north-south on the concrete surfaced Orla do Guaíba (“Orla”). There are great lake views, several waterfront parks, and a festive scene overall with restaurants and bars. There are separate paths for pedestrians and cyclists, in parts. PRO TIP: Great Sunsets!
The north end is just off the historical center, at the Usina do Gasômetro cultural hall. Run south along the lake. The first section is through Parque Moacyr Scliar, which also features a few wooden decks over the water. At around KM 2, there’s a short on-road section in the area of the Pôr do Sol (Sunset) Anfiteatro, a cool outdoor theater. The next section is through the waterside Parque Jaime Lerner. There are also sports facilities and restaurants, and just across the road, the interior Cachorródromo do Marinha, with additional trails, sports fields, and a large skate park. The path ends in the area of the Beira-Rio Coração do Gigante stadium.
Add-Ons: You can continue further south, on cycle paths/sidewalks along the busy Av Padre Cacique for ~1.4 km, to the Pontal Porto Alegre, a scenic waterfront park with additional paths, a ferry terminal, and a scenic pier.
