This route features Aachen’s important parks and the landmark Lousberg Hill, where your climb will be rewarded with stunning views. Start in Aachen centre or in Stadpark, which is just north of the 1a road. Stadtpark is a medium-sized, attractive park featuring lovely paths passing gardens and numerous fountains. Create your own route around the park — a loop is ~2 km.
Then, use the path running along the Monheimsallee path along the median of the 1a road to head into the Lousberg area. There are numerous roads and paths around this hill — difficult to map precisely. We recommend taking the Buchenallee path at the north end to the Lousberg Pavillion/Terrace area, and then using the path between Hoffmannallee to reach the summit. It’s a fairly gradual 100 climb. Enjoy the views and then exit the back end on Hoffmannallee to head down, then RIGHT on Kupferstraße, completing the route on the Ludwigsallee/Monheimsallee path.
One fun idea is to follow the 5.5 km course of the popular Lousberglauf road race, which takes place in July. COURSE MAP
