River Taff Area Paths and Trails

Jeremy Segrott

The pinnacle of running in Cardiff is the network of parks and multi-use paths surrounding the River Taff.  There are many options for running here, including paths along the Dock Feeder Canal, the River Taff, and in the adjacent Blackweir Fields,  Pontcanna Fields, and Llandaff Fields. Some options:

6 km River Loop. This popular loop starts in Bute Park, at the northwest corner of the City Center, near Cardiff Castle. Start along the Dock Feeder Canal and the Blackweir Fields, and run northwest to the A48/Cardiff University. Cross the river and head back along the River Taff trail and Pontcanna Fields.

Other options: Additional options include a run south to the mouth of Cardiff Bay, or a much longer journey north to scenic wooded areas like the Forest Farm Country Park and Long Wood Nature Reserve. Choose any of these spots for a short run or loop, or link them all together for a long distance training session of up to 55 miles. This trail map can help you plan a run of your choice.
