This run is a tour of Cheyenne’s historic downtown, the area around the Wyoming State Capitol, and a couple of lovely parks. The full tour is 7.7 miles, but there are options for shorter & longer. Downtown Cheyenne is laid out in an easy grid system, so the route is easy to follow and vary.
Start at Lions Park, which is just north of downtown and near the airport. There are nice paths and a nearly 1 mile loop around Sloan Lake. Exit the park off West 8th Ave. onto Capitol Ave. It’s a straight shot for 1 mile south to the State Capitol. This scenic street is a grand corridor that connects the historic train depot to the state capitol building, with a perfectly framed view of the gold-leafed capitol dome. Continue south for 1.5 miles to West Lincolnway — Cheyenne’s primary historic commercial thoroughfare, lined with ornate brick buildings and neon signs that evoke a sense of mid-century Americana blended with frontier history. You’ll run by the historic Tivoli, Atlas Theater, and Plains Hotel. Our route includes a jaunt along West 15th St. past the Historic Depot, which is a nice pedestrian thoroughfare.
Head east for ~1 mile along East Lincolnway to Holiday Park, where you can do a nearly 1 mile loop around its paths & small lake. The final 2 miles is back north through downtown: From E 19th St., RIGHT on Seymour, LEFT on E Pershing, RIGHT on Carey Ave.
Shorter Option: Eliminate E Lincolnway/Holiday Park section, instead heading back north on downtown streets.
Longer Option: Connect to the Dry Creek section of the Cheyenne Path (just north of Lions Park), or our South Cheyenne route.
