While this won’t qualify as a ‘great run’, we’ve researched some of the best neighborhoods for running in Barranquilla. Generally these are more of the upscale residential or commercial districts, featuring leafy streets with sidewalks and some small parks. Best to create your own route in these areas.
El Country/El Prado Area. Anchored by Washington Park and Carrera 53. There are numerous upscale hotels & restaurants, and safe, residential streets — most with sidewalks — that are decent for running. Generally the ‘Carrera’ streets, from Carrera 52 to Carrera 59, are best for running. There are numerous small parks.
Sports Complex “El Pibe”. Adjacent to Roberto Melendez Metropolitan Stadium, there’s an excellent running track and the small, pleasant Parque Metropolitano. Extend your runalong Av. Murillo toward the city center. It’s not pretty, but there are wide sidewalks.
Altos de Riomar Area. North of Barranquilla, this is an area of new shopping centers, apartment buildings, and hotels. Calle 98 anchors the area. Calle 99 is decent for running, headed north through the ~1 km linear Parque Boulevard Buenavista.
Norte Centro Historico. A growing, commercial part of the city. Best spot for running is Parque Sagrado Corazón, which features some paths, an outdoor gym, and the Monumento sagrado corazon de jesus. You can also do a 1 km loop on the park’s perimeter streets: Calle 42/42e/80, which are leafy with good sidewalks.
