Mirador del Sur is the indisputable center of running culture in the Dominican Republic and, along with the Malecón (waterfront), is the best spot for running in Santo Domingo. This linear park is an oasis of safe, off-street running in this otherwise chaotic city and is the go-to spot for running clubs and races, especially on Saturday mornings when groups like Cultura Fit meet for longer distance runs. Mirador del Sur is completely closed to vehicle traffic daily between 5 am – 9 am and again from 5 pm to 9 pm, so runners can safely connect the park paths with the streets that cut through the greenery. This allows for a one-way stretch of about 3.4 uninterrupted miles (5.5 km). However, runners can access the park paths at any time of day for a shorter run.
