Those who want to escape the bustling streets of Fez can seek out the trail to Jbel (Mount) Zalagh in the north of the city. This moderate trail run through olive groves culminates in spectacular views of the city, and offers plenty of chances for hill work on the way. The best way to access the trail is to taxi to the base of the mountain on Ouezzane Road (near the junction of Avenue des Merinides and R501. From here, the trail crosses a creek and climbs through farmland to meet R501 again. If runners wish to continue from here, they can follow the street for a while, then cross another trail up to a scenic plateau. It’s a 7 km run (one-way), but the terrain is relatively smooth, and the views are incredible!

Other Routes in Fez, Morocco
Run the streets of Fez’s pedestrian friendly medina (Fes El Bali) on our 8 km ‘runseeing’ tour. Highlights include the city walls, gardens, and leather tanneries.
Some of the best running in Fez is located in the Forêt d'ain Chkef, a shaded forest located just south of the city center. Here, runners can find over 5k of smooth gravel and dirt pathways.
One of the better options for a road run is the N6 highway between Fez and Meknes. Our favorite section is the wide sidewalk between Agdal and the Université Euro-Méditerranéenne de Fez, nearly 6 km.
The Parc Champ de Course is one of the larger green spaces in Fez. Runners can form a 1 km loop around its palm trees, paths, and gardens, then add on a jaunt to the Jardin de Nouveau Méchouar and back.
The Avenue Hassan II mixes the best of road running and park running together with a lovely median that spans ~2 km down the street.
