The trails in Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania National Military Park are our favorite place to run in the Fredericksburg area. This national military park commemorates one of the bloodiest battles of the Civil War. There are 35+ miles of interpretive trails spread out over an area that includes Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Wilderness, and Spotsylvania. Some are dedicated trails and others are on shoulders alongside a road. It’s a mix of paved walking trails and some slightly more rugged ‘hiking’ trails. Rolling hill terrain.

Click here for trail maps for individual trails in the four different areas. Some of our favorite sections for running:

Fredericksburg. There are 5+ miles of trail along Lee Dr. Add with the 1.8 mile Bernard’s Cabins Trail.

Chancellorsville. The 4.3 mile Chancellorsville History Trail is a dedicated, well-waymarked trail.

Wilderness. Located 16 miles west of Fredericksburg. Numerous options here. Best spot for a run is the Federal Line Trail (up to 7.2 miles out & back).

Spotsylvania. We love running the 5.7-mile Spotsylvania History Trail loop, which weaves throughout most of the Spotsylvania Battlefield, passing much of the 14 miles of earthworks on the battlefield and covering the majority of tour stops.
