Fredericksburg is a lovely small city located between Washington, D.C. & Richmond. A major port during the colonial area, Fredericksburg was the site of one of the bloodiest battles of the Civil War. It’s a popular visitor destination for its historic sites and charming downtown along the riverfront. There’s some lovely running in Fredericksburg, with numerous multi-use paths and trails around the National Military Park.

The best place to run in Fredericksburg is to choose from among the 35 miles of trails in Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania National Military Park, spread across Fredericksburg, Wilderness, Chancellorsville and Spotsylvania. Right in downtown Frederisksburg, there are several miles of running centered on the Rappahannock River, combining the Rappahannock River Heritage Trail, Embrey Dam Trail, Rappahannock Canal Trail & Belmont Ferry Farm Trail. The Virginia Central Railway Trail is another good option.

Note that summers in this area are hot and humid! It’s especially lovely running here in spring & fall.
