This nearly 10k run along the River Nivelle and seafront promenade in Saint-Jean-de-Luz is among the more scenic of our Basque coastal routes. Saint-Jean-de-Luz is a pretty fishing town, known for its beach and historic Saint-Jean-Baptiste church, which dates back to the 1400s.

Start at the Port of Saint-Jean-de-Luz, around the attractive marina resplendent with boats. Run on the Prom. Alfred Poise, a quai path along the River Nivelle, to the E5 Highway. Nice water views on this is ~5 km out and back section of the route. Next, run for 2 km northwest along Prom. Jacques Thibaud, the attractive seafront promenade along the beach, to La Colline Sainte-Barbe — a scenic point jutting out into the sea. There’s an especially scenic, hilly path leading to the Chapelle Saint-Barbe, where your ~40m climb will be rewarded with great views! Return to the port using the promenade.
Notes: the 1.2 km Grand Plage (beach) has soft sand but can be runnable right near the water. Promenade lit at night.

Add-On: For a fantastic longer run, combine with our Ciboure route, which starts right across the way from the harbour.
