River Trail Loop

Google Street View

This is a lovely run on the Royal Recreation Trail/Eramosa River Trail multi-use paths through several parks along the Speed and Eramosa rivers, which merge in downtown Guelph. There are numerous options for loops, add-ons, or combinations with adjacent trails. The surface is mainly gravel, featuring a nice combination of woods, water views, parks, and fields.

A good starting point is on Gordon St. at Royal City Park. Run east on the south side of the river along the Royal Recreation Trail for 2.4 km to Victoria Rd. You’ll have to do an extra ~1 km loop to be able to easily turn around and cross Victoria Rd. to Eramosa Park on the north side of the river. [Optional add-on is another ~1 km east of the turnaround point to Stone Rd.] Return to downtown heading west on the Eramosa River Trail, crossing Gordon St. at the 6 km mark. You can continue for another ~1 km to Edinburgh St.,  then cross back over to the south side and return to the start.

Add-Ons:  West from Gordon St. through Water St. Park. The University of Guelph campus is just south on Gordon St. Another small section of the Royal Recreation Trail continues south of Water St. Park, through Centennial Park & more.

Also the location of a ParkRun.
