Helsingør (Elsinore), Denmark

Kronborg Castle & Waterfront

Creative Commons: Maria Eklind

A spectacular run in Helsingør, featuring a loop around Kronborg — the 16th-century waterfront castle that’s the model for Elsinore in Hamlet — and then scenic running north of the castle around the marina and on a promenade path along the Øresund strait. Overall, the route is 8 km.

From the ferry terminal, there’s a wide waterfront promenade for 0.5 km north. Take the Ny Kronborgvej, and do a loop around the waterfront Heracles and the Hydra Sculpture. Then enjoy the spectacular running around the castle: there are two loops to do — the Kronborg path around the castle, and then the outer perimeter path along the water. Great views!

Following the castle area loop, head north from the Maritime Museum, and run along the scenic paths around the marina, then continuing north on a seafront promenade path, passing the Gummistranden scenic spot and the Casino.

Add-Ons: See our additional route on the forest paths just north of Helsingør.

Note: the ferry runs very frequently, takes 20 minutes, and costs €12 return (on foot).
