Portorož to Izola, Slovenia

Izola: Marinas, Piers, Waterfront Paths

Creative Commons: Jarba

There’s some very nice waterfront running in Izola, an old fishing town on the Adriatic peninsula that’s popular to visit along with Portorož, and Piran. We’ve put together two routes, which can be combined.

Marina path. Google Street View

Marinas and Piers Route. This 6.6 km route heads explores the marina and piers around Izola and heads south. From the Lonka car park, the first 2 km is out the pier and then north along Izola Beach. Return, then run south on paths along and around the marina for ~1.5 km to where the path ends at a parking lot at Simonov zaliv Beach.

Path to Koper. Google Street View

Waterfront Path to Koper. Nearly 6 km of lovely waterfront path from Izola east to Koper. It’s a paved multi-use path path along the beach, paralleling sort of a busy road, but with great sea views. The path starts near the car parks around the center of Izola and then heads east, ending at the marina in Koper. Very easy to follow. Up to 12 km out and back.
