Portorož to Izola, Slovenia

Portorož Marina and Canal Path

Creative Commons: Mr. No

This is a lovely waterfront on paths headed south from Portorož, around the marina and along the Jerneja Canal. Up to 6 km one-way. It can be combined with the paths headed north to Piran and the paths around the salt flats in Krajinski Natural Park.

From Portorož, start with a quick jaunt out the pier and then head south along the paved waterfront path for 2 km. Great views winding your way around the harbour and marina. Then there’s a short, hilly on-road section, before picking up a waterfront path again around the Parenzana sports complex. At the 4 km mark, continue east along the Jerneja Canal for 2 km to the highway and a parking lot for Krajinski Park. It’s a pretty, traffic-free road with nice water views and lots of boats!

Add-Ons: At the end of the canal path, continue on the paths around the salt flats of Krajinski Natural Park. And/or combine with waterfront path headed north for 4.2 km to Piran and then another 1.6 km to Fiesa Lake.
