Portorož to Izola, Slovenia

Krajinski Park Salt Flats

Creative Commons: Jarba

This is a scenic run on paths around the salt flats of Krajinski Park (Sečovlje Salina). These salt pans have been cultivated for 700 years. There’s also great viewing of birds, brine shrimp, and rare plants. It can be combined with other waterfront paths in Portorož.

Google Street View
A good starting point is the car park. A loop around the paths is ~5.3 km. Use the paved Parecag path and other myriad gravel paths around the flats. For a longer run, combine with the path along the the Jerneja Canal. From the car park, it’s 2 km west, where you can then join the waterfront path north to Portorož.

Add-Ons: In addition to the salt flats, there’s 2 km along the Jerneja Canal, and ~10 km of waterfront paths north to Portorož & Piran.
