Maine: Southern Coast

Kennebunk and Kennebunkport Shore Runs

Kennebunk and neighboring Kennebunkport are popular vacation spots in summer. In Kennebunk, you’ll find beaches, historic shipbuilders’ homes, and the Brick Store Museum. Kennebunkport is a historic shipbuilding and fishing village, with Dock Square as its commercial center. Out recommended places to run in Kennebunk and Kennebunkport:

Kennebunk Shore Run: Wonderful shore side run on Great Hill Rd. and Beach Ave., with nice water views and grand homes. There’s a sidewalk or decent shoulder for most of the 2 mile one-way route, which parallels Kennebunk Beach (not great for running). For a longer run, take Beach Ave. away from the water for 1 mile to Kennebunkport and connect to our 4+ mile run there. MAP

Kennebunkport/Cape Arundel. One of the more spectacular oceanside runs in Maine, with fantastic water views, inns, grand homes, the Bush Compound, and famous Mabel’s seafood restaurant. From the center of Kennebunkport, follow Ocean Ave. east along the Kennebunk River, toward the water. A good turnaround point is at the 2-mile mark, just past Sandy Cove Rd., at Heaven Swamp Park. MAP

Kennebunk Plains. Run by the Nature Conservancy, there are a couple of miles of fairly sandy trails in this 135 acre property. Grasslands, pine barrens, and in late summer, supposedly the  world’s largest population of a purple flower called the northern blazing star. INFO
