Kristiansand Waterfront Run

Creative Commons: trolvag

Running along the waterfront is the signature run in Kristiansand. It’s also a great way to explore the city and see some of its highlights such as the beach, Tangen pier, the fountains in Nupenparken, and Christiansholm Fortress. It’s not a seamless waterfront path — rather, it’s a series of paths and connector streets winding around Austerhavna Bay & marina, including a section along the Otra River. There are some great water views! Overall, up to 5 km one-way.

The south end is at Fiskebrygga. Head east along the water, through Nupenparken, with its waterfront paths and fountains, and then pass Christiansholm Fortress (Christiansholm festning). Continue along, passing the small, scenic Bystranda beach, and wind your way around the small peninsula that juts out into the bay. Continue on the west bank of the Otra River, and then cross the Christian Quartbroa bridge. Enjoy 1.6 km of paths along the eastern side of the river.

Add-Ons: Just inland, enjoy the mainly pedestrian streets of Kvadraturen, Kristiansand’s central area. Lovely, colorful homes in Posebyen! Markens St. is the main commercial street.

Essentials
  • Nearly 5 km (3 miles) one-way
  • Fairly flat
  • Fiskebrygga, or other section along the water
