Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Forest Research Institute

Located 16 km northwest central KL, the Forest Research Institute is one of the world’s leading institutions in tropical forestry research. It is a great opportunity to see tropical vegetation and preservation, while enjoying recreational activities such as jogging and cycling.  The area is also a top bird watching spot, with 182 species. There are some lovely nature trails, including a canopy walkway.

Running is allowed on certain designated roads (Jalan): Jalan Foxworthy, Jalan Jelutong, Jalan Kapur, Kepong Botanic Garden, Rover Track and Jalan Kampung Jawa. See map below. A run on these main roads (mainly Jalan Kapur, Foxworthy, and Frim) is 7.5 km (4.7 miles). Somewhat hilly. Running is discouraged on the nature trails. For a more detailed description of the route, see this guide  (Route 2) from Marriott Traveler.
