In the western part of Leicester, one can put together a nice run through several ares parks. A highlight is Braunstone Park, a 168-acre open space with formal gardens, 2 lakes, jogging paths with gym equipment. There are paths featuring woodlands, meadows, and the Winstanley household’s former walled garden. It’s ~1 mile from south to north, though it’s possible to do about 3 miles within the park.
At the northern end, there’s a connector path across Hinckley Rd. to Western Park. This is a smaller park, but is a nice green space with paths on the east side and open fields on the west side. It’s ~2 miles through Braunstone & Western Park. So, you could do a nice 4-5 mile run combining these two green spaces.
For a more ambitious run, connect to the former Western Park Golf Course (also called Oak Park). Located 1 mile west of Western Park (use Dominion Rd.), this golf course closed in 2015 and is now a publicly accessible green space with footpaths. Though not actively managed, it’s a nice open space with rolling hill paths — sort of like a golf course! A perimeter loop is ~3 miles. The paths are mainly a grass surface. For the return, Scudamore Rd. is a decent option.
Combining these three parks is a good 7-mile run. Note that the connections to Western Park Golf Course are runnable but not that scenic.
