This is our guide to running on Italy’s eastern Adriatic Coast, focused on the the Abruzzo and Puglia regions. Several of the more popular visitor destinations feature lovely seaside promenades or cycle paths that are safe and scenic for running. We also include a few ‘runseeing’ tours in the more historic cities.

Our guide to the best places to run on the Adriatic Coast stretches some 500 km from Martinsicuro to Otranto. From north to south, we feature waterfront routes in Giulianova; Pescara; the 19 km Costa dei Trabocchi; Barletta; Trani; Bisceglie; Giovinazzo; several routes in Bari; Monopoli; San Foca; and Otranto. There’s also a ‘runseeing’ tour of Lecce.

Runners should note that this area can be very hot in summer, and many of the seaside paths are exposed.
