Further north along the coast is the beautiful coastal town of Monopoli, known for its port, beaches, and historical centre including an important castle and cathedral. The best place to run in Monopoli is a fairly seamless waterfront path that stretches for 2.3 km between Porto Rosso and Piazza Giuseppe Garibaldi. This includes passing by the 1550s era Castello Carlo V, out to the lighthouse (Faro). There are lovely views of the port and the Adriatic along the way.

Longer Run: Add on by creating your own route in the historic centre (centro storico), which runs between the waterfront Castello, inland to Piazza XX Settembre. This is a maze of narrow streets, so good to do it early to beat the crowds and the heat.
