Belém, often called Belém of Pará, is the capital and largest city of the state of Pará. a gateway to the Amazon River with a busy port, and is also known for its colonial area, with tree-filled squares, churches and traditional blue tiles. Running in Belém can challenge, as the climate is very hot and humid, and there’s not a great infrastructure of large parks or waterfront paths.
The best place to run in Belém is Utinga State Park, which features several miles of trails, including a 4 km paved multi-use trail. For a nice city tour, our Squares & Waterfront route features several of Belém’s iconic squares and a 2 km waterfront path in the Estação das Docas area. Several of the numerous islands near Belém are popular visitor destinations for their beaches — which can be good for running, situationally.
Runner Notes: Belém’s climate is very hot and humid, year-round. There are some shaded trails in Utinga State Park.
