Florianópolis is the second largest city and capital of the State of Catarina, in the south region of Brazil. The city includes the Santa Catarina Island and surrounding small islands, and the mainland. It’s a popular visitor destination for its famous beaches and surfing, historic colonial architecture, and scenic setting of bays, lagoons, and surrounding mountains. Our guide to running in Florianópolis includes routes in São José & Lagoa, considered part of the greater metro area.
The best places to run in Florianópolis are the several waterfront routes. The signature waterfront path runs for 9 km along the Baía Norte. We also have nice runs along the Conceição lagoon (Lagoa da Conceição) and São José Bay. We’ve also put together a ‘Runseeing Tour‘, which includes the highlights of the historical center, two running tracks, and a scenic suspension bridge. The best beaches for running are in the Lagoa area.
Note the Florianópolis weather is humid year-round, with quite hot summers, and lots of rain, especially in summer.
