This is the Great Runs guide to running in Jersey City. It’s the second-largest city in New Jersey, with a population of 200,000. We also include routes in the adjacent city of Hoboken, which has a population of 60,000. Jersey City is best known for its waterfront and Liberty State Park on the Hudson River, which are great for running and feature great views of the Manhattan skyline. It’s also minutes from Manhattan via the PATH subway.
The best place to run in Jersey City is on the waterfront paths along the Hudson River. When combined with the paths in Hoboken, there are nearly 10 miles of uninterrupted waterfront paths, with great views of the river and NYC skyline. We also love running in Liberty State Park, a large green space with waterfront paths and great views of lower Manhattan, Ellis Island, and the Statue of Liberty. We’ve also put together a ‘runseeing’ tour of downtown Jersey City’s historic downtown, with its 19th century brownstones and Victorian-era Hamilton Park and Van Vorst Park.
