Klaipėda, Lithuania

Includes Melnrage & Palanga

Mantas Volungevicius

This attractive port city of Klaipėda, where the Baltic Sea meets the Danė River is the third largest city in Lithuania. The area is popular for its beaches and numerous resort towns nearby. There’s some very scenic running in Klaipėda, with attractive waterfront paths, parks, scenic routes on the Curonian Spit just across the water, and some nice running in Melnrage and Palanga.

A great way to start is our terrific Klaipėda runseeing tour, which hits Old Town, the Castle, parks, & more. From downtown, take a short ferry ride to the Curonian Spit for some waterfront running and long, wooded paths. In the southern part of Klaipėda, we’ve mapped a route on paths connecting several schools and parks. Just north in the Melnrage Beach, there’s nice running on the beach and a 2.5 km boardwalk. One of the best places to run in Klaipėda is to drive 30 km north to Palanga to enjoy the pier, botanical gardens, parks, and beach.

Runners should note that the weather in Klaipėda is unsettled and often windy. Winters can be stormy and snowy.
