Lake Garda is the largest lake in Italy, and is a very popular vacation destination. This glacial lake sits at the base of the Gruppo del Baldo mountain range, with a surrounding landscape dotted with the remains of villas, bastions, and castles. The highlight of running in the Lake Garda region is the ~75 km of lakeside paths and promenades through bucolic lakeside towns such as Sirmione, Bardolino, Limone Sul Garda, Malcesine, and Riva del Garda. There are also longer multi-use paths along the Sarca River on the northern side of the lake and the Mincio River at the southern end. We’ve also mapped a few trail running options. And, something to look forward to: a 140 km cycling path circling the entire lake is expected to open in 2021.
To organize our guide to the best places to run in Lake Garda, we’ve organized the routes around the lake in a clockwise direction. For more nearby running, check out our guide to running in Verona.
