Princeton is an attractive town in southern New Jersey, known for the Ivy League Princeton University. There are also numerous corporate offices in the area, which also serves as a garden suburb of Philadelphia (an hour away). There are wonderful options for running in Princeton, between the attractive university campus, bucolic residential streets, and numerous parks and multi-use paths in the area. Our thanks to GR friend Kassie Helm for her helpful route suggestions!
Naturally, we recommend a run around the Princeton University campus and some of the historic streets in adjacent downtown Princeton. We’ve also created two loops around the attractive residential neighborhoods in the area, which feature leafy streets and stately older homes. Probably the best place for a long run in Princeton is the D&R Canal Trail, which goes along the historic canal for many miles north or south. Other must-do runs in the area are the trails in Mercer Meadows, or sections of the 22-mile Lawrence Hopewell Trail.
