Santiago de Querétaro, most commonly known as Querétaro, is the capital and largest city of the state of Querétaro, located in central Mexico. It’s an important business and economic city. Querétaro’s historic center is a UNESCO World Heritage site, for its colonial architecture, geometric street pattern, and twisting alleys. The situation for running in Querétaro isn’t great — the streets are busy, there are few large parks, and not much of an infrastructure of off-road paths. Still, there are some nice spots to run in Querétaro.
A great way to get oriented is to take our Querétaro ‘runseeing’ tour, which focuses on the historic center, river paths, and some small parks. Also near the center is our Río Querétaro Loop, which features the pleasant, tree-shaded Av. Universidad along the river. One of the best places to run in Querétaro is Parque Querétaro 2000, which features nice paths, a loop around a lake, and a running track. Trail runners will love Parque Nacional El Cimatario, located just 15 minutes south of the center.
Runner Notes: Querétaro is located at 1,900 meters — this will take some acclimation! Also, Querétaro has wonderful weather for running — sunny, fairly dry, and warm year-round.
