For an easy to follow route near the historic center of Santiago de Querétaro, our Río Querétaro Loop is a decent option. This narrow river is just north of Centro Storico. Although there’s not a dedicated path along the river, the tree-lined Avenida Universidad lines both banks of the river and features a suitable sidewalk for running.
It’s 4 km between Highway 57 at the west end and Lib. Nte. de Querétaro at the east end, making for a straightforward 8 km loop. There are views of the narrow, brackish waterway, and some decent shade trees along the way. For access from the center, use C. Allende Nte, where there’s also a small pedestrian bridge crossing over the river.
Add-Ons: There’s nice running in the Cerro de las Campanas park, just south of the river (the streets to get there aren’t that nice), and on the pedestrian paths around the Universidad Autónoma de Querétaro & adjacent Instituto Tecnológico de Querétaro — which are also part of our Santiago de Querétaro ‘runseeing‘ tour.
- Up to ~4 km along the river, making for a loop of 8.4 km (5.2 miles)
- Fairly flat
- West end: Cerro de Las Campanas park; Also can start near center
- Good access from Centro, using one of the streets leading to the river path, such as C. Allende Nte.
