Stratford-upon-Avon is a popular tourist destination, owing to its status as the birthplace and gravesite of playwright and poet William Shakespeare. The town receives some 2.5 million visitors a year. Located in the county of Warwickshire, Stratford is close to the northern end of the Cotswolds. There are some pleasant running options in Stratford-Upon-Avon, with numerous multi-use paths and pastoral trails passing fields and farms.
The signature run in Stratford is the path along the River Avon, headed south of town. This path intersects with the popular Stratford Greenway. Another great place to run in Stratford is the canal path. Just west of town, near Anne Hathaway’s Cottage, there are some pastoral paths passing by fields and farms, while a few miles east of town, enjoy a run in Charlecote Park, the grounds of a 12th-century estate. We also highly recommend heading a few miles south of Stratford to experience some running in the Cotswolds — a designated Area of Natural Beauty. The northern terminus of the 105-mile Cotswold Way is located in Chipping Campden.
