Namur ‘Runseeing’ Tour: Old Town, parc Louise-Marie, Citadelle

Namur view from Citadelle
Ronnie Pander at wts wikivoyage

This ‘runseeing’ tour of the small city of Namur has three parts: the streets of the largely pedestrianized Old Town, parc Louise-Marie, and the historic Citadelle. Use our map as a guideline to create your own route. Note: the Citadelle section is very hilly.

Start in the historic centre near the Station Centre-Ville gondola station (the gondola accesses the Citadelle). Enjoy a tour of the largely pedestrianized old town, which sits between the Sambre River and the central train station. Key sites include the baroque Église catholique Saint-Loup, the Namur Cathedral, and several museums. Head west for a jaunnt around the small, attractive parc Louise-Marie. Then, head back east toward the centre along the river, crossing the Passerelle Saint-Aubain pedestrian bridge to the south bank. The next section is a DIY tour of the hilly roads and paths around the Citadelle de Namur, which dates back to the 10th century. Hilly, but great views!

Add-Ons: The main tour is ~6.5 km, but can add with additional streets in the center, more roads and paths around the Citadelle, and paths along the Sambre and Meuse rivers.

Essentials
  • 6.2 km (3.9 miles), with good add-on options
  • 155m (510 feet) -- mainly in the Citadelle section
  • Off Rue Muzet, just north of the train station
