There are two terrific coastal running opportunities in Nanaimo, which we’ve divided into two separate routes: this one, showcasing the Harbourfront Walkway and the marina area; and in northern Nanaimo, highlighting Neck Point Park and Pipers Lagoon Park.
This central Nanaimo route follows the water for 4.5 km. Start off Front St. with an 0.6 km loop around Nanaimo Harbour/McGregor Park, featuring great views of the harbour and Meakin Channel. Then continue north on the Harbourfront Walkway, a scenic paved path following the harbour & marina, looping around the waterfront Maffeo Sutton Park (Nanaimo Sign), passing the Giant Octopus Artwork and Chinese Memorial Gardens Park. There’s a short section along the Trans Canada Highway (more of a busy main road, decent sidewalk), picking up the Harbourfront Walkway again to its north end at the Ferry Terminal.
