Our Neessebar tour is one of the great runs along the Bulgarian Black Sea Coast. A scenic waterfront promenade encircles Old Nessebar, which sits on a promontory, whose cobbled streets are lined with Byzantine ruins. There are great views of the sea and old town. The official loop around Old Nessebar is ~3 km, but we’ve added other waterfront sections to make this a 7.4 km run. Bonus: Paths are lit
Start on the waterfront promenade just south of Baby Beach. A wide concrete path follows the water south for 1.2 km, passing the Marine Aquarium. Then take the scenic cobbled pedestrian path across the bridge, passing the iconic Windmill. Then, follow the path that skirts the outer perimeter of Old Nessebar. There are great sea views on one side, and of Old Town above, which can be reached by stairs at various points. Include the 0.5 km loop around Morska gara park. Return over the bridge. Our route includes a 1.2 loop around South Park Nessebar, which has a waterfront path and interior shaded paths, and an impressive fountain.
Add-On: Create your own tour of Old Nessebar. It’s mainly pedestrianized, and the streets are cobblestone surface. It’s ~1 km east-west on the peninsula. Ul. Mitropolitska and ul. Mesembrija are the two anchor streets.
